Despite our name, the Clacton on Sea Lions Club (CIO) currently covers the whole of the Tendring District. We are part of Lions Clubs International, the largest and most successful Non-Governmental Organisation involved in service and charity. The Club is a service organisation which fundraises for charitable purposes and cooperates with other charities and not-for-profit organisations to help them achieve their aims.
We were chartered in June 1979 so celebrated our 40th Anniversary in 2019. Since January 2019, we have also been registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
Over time, we have gone from strength to strength as our area and our membership has grown. However, we are always open for potential new members who wish to give their time and energy to give something back to our communities. Currently we have 31 members and are open to adding more members as the demands for our assistance grows.
Focusing mainly on local issues, supporting both the young and elderly and non age-specific projects, we are still able to respond to national and international events through our membership of Lions Clubs International. We know that any funds that we send to an international disaster zone will be handled by like-minded members of Lions Clubs in that locality.
The members of our Lions Club come from all walks of life and give their time freely to help others. Fundraising is necessary to help us carry out this voluntary work in the community and internationally. These funds either come from our own funds or fundraising efforts or can go direct by giving our time to the efforts of other charities. We help where help is needed, both in our communities and around the world, repeatedly giving our unmatched integrity and energy.
All kinds of requests are considered for support and our Lions are keen to help anyone who is genuinely struggling with ordinary life and the unfortunate things it can from time to time throw at us. We like to put a smile on people’s faces and have fun doing it. Please support us and help those who might never be able to survive otherwise.
